In April 2008 D.A. Christian, the Kansas City Emergency Management Director, sent me images of eleven of the Series 1B 1952 Federal Civil Defense Administration issue posters. These posters are labeled "Series 1B" and all dated 1952. The poster images Mr. Christian sent are #1 and #3-12. These posters are in the documents archives at the Truman Presidential Library and Museum in Missouri.
The image of Series 1B poster number 2 was sent to me by Brad Schnure
in 2008 and here in 2017 after going through my folders and folders of images I just found his email
and images again. After all this time poster number 2 of series 1B is added to this gallery. The poster
number 2 in the 1B series shown is part of his personal collection.
See three of his Series 2B posters at
the bottom of this page.
I don't know if there were more than 12 posters in the 1B series. Maybe since these posters were issued in the middle of the Korean War that's why they have a much darker wartime look than the later 1950s early 1960s Civil Defense posters. Many of these posters have the signiture "LEE" on them like some of the later Civil Defense posters. Whoever "Lee" was I have no idea. Thanks to D.A. Christian for the images!
Here are threee posters from the FCDA series 2B. These images were sent to me in 2008 by Brad Schnure. Poster numbers are 2B-5, 2B-7 and 2B-10. It's June 2017 and I'm just now putting them up. Yes, I'm a slob.
These three posters all have the artist's signature "Lester Greer" at the bottom. I don't recall seeing that name on any other civil defense related material. Thanks for sending the images Brad!
